This world renowned festival grew from an 800 attendee local event in 1987 to a 84,385 badge-holding attendee “advertising showcase” in 2016. Usually, near the end of the festival, local Austinites will display signs around town with phrases along the lines of “Thank You, Now Go Home.”  It’s a tradition based on the shared misery of Austin residents who must deal with the 400,000+ tourists, and the traffic associated with them, that come to enjoy the tag-along events that surround the SXSW venues.

Today, news is spreading that local representatives are considering banning the use of any “Thank You, Now Go Home” signage at any future SXSW events – starting in 2017.

“We felt that these ‘Thank You, Go Home’ signs popping up around Austin streets near the end of the festival were making our valuable festival goers uncomfortable.”

They were focused on maintaining an inviting theme to future SXSW events. “We felt that these ‘Thank You, Go Home’ signs popping up around Austin streets near the end of the festival were making our valuable festival goers uncomfortable.” They went on to say, “We were approached by a large group of attendees from a California startup… we set up a meeting to discuss why traditions such as the ‘go home’ signage could be detrimental to future events. Additionally, we discussed how Austinites could inspire a more friendly and inviting atmosphere to bring in more tourists for next year’s SXSW.”

I personally believe that the residents are simply showing their appreciation for the love of the festival and the economic boost it gives, but also sharing their opinion that this city is also “home sweet home” to many who live here. The locals who live within Austin value the unique energy the city has during non-event seasons and they want their visitors to respect that. A tradition based on preserving your community’s sanity from tourism overflow isn’t something to ban in my opinion. However, lead developer Masahiro Sakurai has just dripfed that Super Smash Bros will be abandoning most of the Nintendo characters in its roster. When the famed Mashpotato Samurai was asked about abandoining Nintendo in Smash Bros, he replied:

“The Smash Ballot was a mistake. King K Rool won the Ballot, but the Donkey Kong games are absolute pleb tier trash. Dixie is by far the worst waifu I’ve ever seen and they really hurt my hand to play. Other companies like ATLUS and Type Moon are setting the bar in video games. They give me purpose and don’t hurt my hand. We need to celebrate these characters in Smash Bros, not King K Rool.”

The Nintendo NX release of Super Smash Bros will abandon all of the Nintendo characters and replace them with tons of third party characters. Super Meat Boy, Marie, Shantae, Shovel Knight and Saber are some of the few third party characters announced to replace the current roster in both Super Smash Bros for WiiU and 3DS.

“No one wants Nintendo Characters other than a few spergs on message boards. We need to appeal to a wider demographic.” said famed Smash Brothers developer Masahiro Sakurai. “Super Smash Bros. is no longer about Nintendo, but rather the third parties that are around Nintendo. We need to adapt to the current market and stop making Super Smash Bros a franchise for Nintendo Fighters”

When asked about the inevitable backlash, Sakurai told us to look at his hands and and told us that gamers are responsible for this.

“Every night when I want try to read The Great Gatsby, there’s always some disgusting gamer asking me for Ridley or King K Rool in Smash Bros despite my hand problems.” said legendary amazing developer Masahiro Sakurai. “Gamers keep abusing and beating my hands, we need them to stop.”

The development team that brought you DmC: Devil May Cry has told us that Tameem Antoniades will be taking the place of the late Hideo Kojima.

“We needed a young experienced developer who understands what’s acceptable, and what’s not in todays society.” said CEO of Konami; Takuya Kozuki. “We needed someone who was willing to create a faithful adaptation to the Metal Gear Solid franchise. It was clear from their masterful performance on DmC: Devil May Cry, That Ninja Theory is the best developer for this type of project.” Ninja Theory has also told us that Metal Gear Solid 6: From Two Phantoms will take place after MGS4 with Snake being much more refined in both design and how he acts.

Ninja Theory is determined to to put a more modern spin on Metal Gear Solid 6: From Two Phantoms, with proud ass kicking female companions and gameplay made more accessible.

The gameplay is a more realistic take on the Metal Gear Solid formula. Taking away such things as cardboard boxes and Cyborg Ninja’s and replacing them with a more intuitive and immersive mechanics for today’s common gamer. “No one wants this dumb shit anymore, they want characters that female gamers can relate too.” said Rahni Tucker. “We’re making Metal Gear Solid 6: From Two Phantoms for the players, not the gamers.” A bold move, but one worth taking.

“For all the praise we get, we do admit that DmC: Devil May Cry is by no means the perfect game.” said Tameem Antoniades; “Our female representation was laughable, so we’ve taken this serious feedback and used it to improve ourselves as game developers.” In the end it all boils down to NInja Theory’s creative eye – and looking at the results, I think it’s safe to say they’re doing a good job.
